4.3 Leadership
After exploring my personal leadership style in my Administration and Leadership course, I moved into the practice of drafting and implementing an Advocacy Plan. I found a need in my own library program, communicated the school improvement possibilities with stakeholders, and then implemented my plan successfully! This plan shows the steps I used to create our school news show, a goal that my administration and I shared last year.
Having the experience of finishing up my coursework during my first year in the library was a wonderful “aha!” moment because I could experience how these plans can create positive change first hand. Assignments like this Advocacy Plan also gave me strong motivation to get involved when a new leadership opportunity presented itself. As someone still gaining experience in her education career, and a naturally shy person, I often let leadership opportunities pass me by in the past. Drafting this plan, collaborating with my school improvement team, and then seeing my hard work pay off were huge confidence boosters. I have learned that communicating how the media center can meet student needs may not come naturally to me, but it is worth it for me to overcome my beginning discomfort. Each time I speak up for our library users, I find that our stakeholders are behind me, supporting our learners and eager to hear how I can help with our program resources. This year, I am happy to share that I am continuing to use these first collaborative relationships to expand our goals and continue to enhance our school community. |
