1.3 Instructional Partner
The artifacts on this page demonstrate my work as an instructional partner. I selected my “It’s Alive” Science Website Pathfinder, as an example of one way to share high quality, digital resources with students and other educators. I also included my collaborative In-service Plan, as an example of how professional development can be cultivated through the media specialist and the media center resources.
These artifacts are strong examples of how I can best help media center users access resources and learn effective information seeking through instructional partnerships. Although I designed both of these artifacts with a future media position in mind, I could now improve both of them by personalizing them to my own learning community’s needs. I could update my site to focus on research standards for K-5 students. I could also highlight purchased databases that I know are worthwhile for our leaners, but that may be underused by our current population for various reasons. A website like this could also be project specific: one way to promote media pathfinders for curious staff members. This promotion could be provided through a staff In-Service, like the artifact I created with my SLM classmates. The clear connection to school improvement demonstrates my understanding of the importance of this Professional Development and others like it to establish our Media Center as essential. These artifacts represent important learning experiences from my classwork. As an instructional partner, I need to have clear understanding of my own content, as well as the content and objectives of my classroom collaborators. I will need to be able to assist students with information literacy, but also my administrators and staff members as a professional partner. I will also need excellent, easily-sharable resources to make sure their information is the most accessible to those who need it. Elementary scheduling may not always allow for everyone to be physically present, but our digital tools will ensure that everyone can still benefit from what I create. |
